Memory Verse: Week of June 18th
Week of June 18th
John 15:5
[5] I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5 ESV)
[Context: In John 15, Jesus identifies himself as the true vine. This word for true is not true in relationship to false, but rather true meaning ultimate – the fulfillment of which the previous vine pointed to. In the Old Testament Scriptures, Israel was the vine. However, Jesus is the true prince of God, the ultimate source of life. The one who would fulfill all the promises given to Abraham. As branches, our life comes from abiding in the true vine – a life lived in connection and dependent relationship to Jesus. We are not the ultimate source of anything good. Any good fruit in our lives has Jesus as the source. Thus he deserves all the glory. ]
